SUMMARY:The People's Forum: "The Puzzle of Universals"
DESCRIPTION:One of the oldest questions in philosophy concerns the relationship between universals and particulars. We can easily point at particular items\, like this equilateral triangle or that isosceles triangle. We call them both triangles because they supposedly share something in common: triangularity. But where is triangularity located? Can we see it or touch it? Is it even real? What is the relationship between triangularity and particular triangles\, or\, for that matter\, between greenness and individual green things? Would there be such a thing as triangularity or greenness if all the individual triangles and green things were destroyed?\nCome find out if you’re a Platonist at the People’s Tap on December 3!\nWhat to Expect A 30 to 40-minute talk followed by audience Q&A Engaging discussion with fellow curious minds A relaxed\, welcoming space to think big while sipping a drink No purchase necessary Outside food welcome (bring your dinner and join in!) Seats are limited — arrive early to snag a spot\n About the SpeakerNathan Sasser is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Humanities Department at Greenville Technical College in Greenville\, SC. His research focuses on David Hume. He is the author of Hume and the Demands of Philosophy: Science\, Skepticism\, and Moderation (Lexington Books\, 2022). He earned his PhD from the University of South Carolina\, his MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary\, and his BA from North Carolina State University.
