SUMMARY:The People's Forum: "What is a Table? Substances & their properties"
DESCRIPTION:What makes a table a table? Is it the wood\, the shape\, its function—or something else entirely?\nJoin us for the next installment of The People’s Forum\, where we’ll dig into a deceptively simple question that opens the door to big ideas about reality\, identity\, and what it means for something to be what it is. Using everyday objects (yes\, like tables)\, we’ll explore how philosophers think about substances and their properties—what changes\, what stays the same\, and where meaning really lives.\nNo philosophy background required—just curiosity\, a willingness to wonder\, and maybe a drink in hand. Come listen\, question\, and discuss in a relaxed\, welcoming setting where big ideas meet good conversation.\n\nWhat to Expect A 30 to 40-minute talk followed by audience Q&A Engaging discussion with fellow curious minds A relaxed\, welcoming space to think big while sipping a drink No purchase necessary Outside food welcome (bring your dinner and join in!) Seats are limited — arrive early to snag a spot\n\n About the SpeakerNathan Sasser is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Humanities Department at Greenville Technical College in Greenville\, SC. His research focuses on David Hume. He is the author of Hume and the Demands of Philosophy: Science\, Skepticism\, and Moderation (Lexington Books\, 2022). He earned his PhD from the University of South Carolina\, his MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary\, and his BA from North Carolina State University.
