The People’s Forum: “What is a Table? Substances & their properties”

January 7, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

What makes a table a table? Is it the wood, the shape, its function—or something else entirely?
Join us for the next installment of The People’s Forum, where we’ll dig into a deceptively simple question that opens the door to big ideas about reality, identity, and what it means for something to be what it is. Using everyday objects (yes, like tables), we’ll explore how philosophers think about substances and their properties—what changes, what stays the same, and where meaning really lives.
No philosophy background required—just curiosity, a willingness to wonder, and maybe a drink in hand. Come listen, question, and discuss in a relaxed, welcoming setting where big ideas meet good conversation.
